Hands down one of the most magical hidden gems in Austin. Prelude is not just a cocktail bar — it’s an experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re wrapped in the most effortlessly elegant vibe that feels both elevated and welcoming. The bartenders are artists, the cocktails are next-level (balanced, inventive, and stunningly presented), and the playlist? Chef’s kiss. Whether you’re here for an intimate date night or a chic catch-up with friends, this spot delivers sophistication without any stuffiness. Every detail is intentional — from the lighting to the glassware to the way you’re treated like a regular on your very first visit. 10/10. Can’t stop thinking about it. Already planning my next excuse to come back.
What a wonderful neighborhood gem! If you are in the mood for a vibe with great cocktails and small bites, this is your place. While trying to find this gem, we were driving by this black house that had a huge, lit tree in the front yard and I commented that it looked super cool, not realizing that this was our destination. They have some parking available in the gravel lot adjacent to the building and we were able to snag a spot. We checked in with the hostess on the porch and was then shown into a dark and sexy house with a lively, yet respectable atmosphere. We had an option to choose indoors or outdoors and while the outdoors was nice and spacious, we opted for a high top table in the bar area as it seemed more intimate and private. TIP: when you make your reservation, if you are not given the option to choose your location, I would note your preference in the special request field. We started with the melon & prosciutto and champagne margarita. The melon was refreshing, but the margarita killed it. For our bites, we chose the citrus cured hamachi which was delicious; the rock shrimp was a bit fishy and not our favorite; the chicken nuggets were an interesting take, but very good and for dessert, we chose the yummy lemon tart. I was afraid that the canapes would not be filling, but I was wrong. Although we only had a few items, we were quite full. I am looking forward to bringing guests from out of town here and I looking forward to a rotating menu.
In the words of the popular song, “Oh my, good lord, someone pour me up a double”. Prelude is so much more than simply a venue for the anticipation of Maven that its name suggests. From the moment you enter, the space is beautifully curated, with both local and international artwork adorning the walls, and more importantly the impeccable welcome from the staff. The drinks: wow, you simply cannot go wrong. We have a list of the best options in Austin for martinis, old fashioneds, etc but these were immediately usurped. Every single drink, whether one of their curated cocktails, updated classics, or something custom-made, were utterly sublime. Special shout outs to both the dry gin martini and dirty vodka martini, as well as their twist on a French 75. The food: every single bite was just wonderful. It felt like we were the judging panel on a series of Top Chef. Bite after flawless bite came, with special shoutouts to the iberico ham (better than anything we’ve had in Spain) that came with the pea croquettes and the caviar (enjoy this separately to the nuggets it comes with, to really savor the flavor of both things). The overview: Chef Matt Peters shows very clearly his pedigree at some of the nations best restaurants; and bar manager Dragan’s cocktails show why he has won so very many awards. The verdict: book a table. Drink the phenomenal drinks. Eat some, most, or (as we did) all of the menu. And savor what is still to come, once Maven opens upstairs some time in 2025. Special shout out to Slim, who truly went above & beyond to make our experience that bit more luxurious.
I absolutely loved this venue! Had book club here on the second floor and it was delightful. The windows all around and plentiful seating is amazing for parties or grabbing a classy cocktail with friends. I love the lighting and the cocktails were rich in flavor and original. 10/10!
The old-fashion & strawberry coconut drinks are delic! This place has style. It's got a combination of NY, a touch of French, & Austin in one package...the patio is fantastic. The food is fresh. The service is spectacular! Plenty of space...will add more pictures later! A feeling of invited privacy is here. The tuna taco is incredible! Giving them 5stars for their food & drinks! By far, this is the best caviar that I've had! Delic. cocktails! They have a fantastic upstairs for private events.
Book club but make it bougie Had the most magical night at Prelude and I’m still swooning! We picked this spot for our monthly book club meetup and honestly? Best decision ever. The vibe was immaculate — think moody lighting, cozy corners, and the kind of playlist that makes you want to Shazam every song. The staff? Sweet angels. The cocktails? Pure art. I got one that looked like a sunset in a glass and tasted like a plot twist. Atmosphere-wise, Prelude is giving “main character energy” — 10/10 would recommend for your next night out, cute date, or yes, even a literary gossip sesh over negronis. Already planning my next visit... because this chapter needs a sequel. #BookClubButMakeItChic
Walking into Prelude Cocktail Bar was a delightful experience. The interior design, with its stylish decoration and captivating art pieces, created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff were not only friendly but also fashionable and attentive. I started with their cocktails, sampling the Chili Morita, Carrot and Hops signature drinks. While they weren’t the best cocktails I’ve ever had, they were enjoyable and beautifully presented. For appetizers, I tried almost everything on the menu and particularly loved the Sweet Peas, hamachi tacos, and chicken nuggets. We sat inside, but a quick glance at the outdoor area suggested it had a nice vibe too. I’ll definitely be back to explore it further. The service was commendable, especially given they had only been open for a few weeks. Prelude Cocktail Bar is a must-visit in Austin and a fantastic spot to spend time with special people.
My friends and I tried Prelude for the first time this evening. It was wonderful. First of all the place is absolutely beautiful. Three floors of spectacularly gorgeous rooms. Each room was uniquely decorated, from the furniture to the art. The cocktails and the canapes were very good. My friends loved their cocktails. The drinks were creative and distinctive. I was the designated driver, so it was a mocktail evening for me. I was very impressed with my drinks as well. It was great to have a nice variety of non alcoholic beverages to choose from. Our service was top notch. Katie, our server, was great. She stopped by frequently ( to check on us, refill water, etc), but was never intrusive. She was friendly and helpful. We never felt rushed. Good food and drinks take a little time to prepare, and it shows. I was very impressed with our experience this evening! I look forward to my next visit!
